Will Mixed Martial Arts Ever Be Legal in New York

Despite having the success of Mma in the last 5yrs, still it hasn’t stated the reputation it rightfully deserves. While millions of fans can’t barely wait until the few weeks ultimately end in between Ultimate fighting championship and Strikeforce cards, there are still many cities and states in the states which have yet to leap on the Mixed martial arts wagon. Many feel it is unsafe, and even not regulated properly. Certainly Ultimate fighting championship President Dana White has argued this point to the end stating that it is so regulated for a professional sport it puts a number of other nationally public ones to shame. Perhaps it’s simply the danger that the sport undoubtedly brings to the table as being an Mixed martial arts fighter is not any walk in the park that scares some law makers off, but at the end of the day it is a sport and a business believe it or not.

For a very long time, the Ufc has been dancing round the state of New York City and trying its best to get them in the roster of fantastic places to hold fights. However, to date they’ve yet to get on board. Dana has offered the state of holding two Ufc cards there annually, which will definitely bring a lot of revenue in for the region, in return for sanctioning mma of Mixed martial arts in New York City. The two of these cards annually will be held at the famous Madison Square Garden then one more somewhere in upstate New York.

Nyc hasn’t been a fan of Mixed martial arts, that does seem odd considering it is a huge city for the sport of Boxing, but is completely against Mixed martial arts. Back in 1997, new york state in fact completely banned MMA and it is continuing to move forward to do so yet again. It truly doesn’t add up to most fans, which Nyc has a huge market ready to support Mma in their home towns with the cards having the possibility to bring in over twenty million dollars annually. New Jersey has jumped on board and it has confirmed how profitable Mixed martial arts can be along the east coast. The New Jersey area being so close to a lot of neighborhoods in Nyc, has opened up it’s doors to Mixed martial arts and are making money handsomely from doing this. For the many fans that can’t have a great Mma show in New York, they take a short journey to Jersey and get the Mma fix they need for now.

Strikeforce will be holding a big venue in New Jersey shortly, making it even more obvious that there is in fact an industry for Mma there. Will this profit gain from holding Mixed martial arts events in New York City alter any opinions for those responsible to change it? The lobbyists and assemblymen that once described Mma as “barbaric” could always attend a few fights after which you can form their rules and opinions from those experiences, but that day may never come any time soon. It appears that for now, New York City residents will have to wait it out and hopefully at some point the Mma ban will come to an end there. There may be a silver lining to this cloud as Mma was illegal in several states for years, and currently has less than a handful to permit mma.
